John Wall goes balls to the wall in NBA Summer League

John Wall

I know it’s just the summer league…but still. Watching John Wall last night was exciting. Any time an athlete is legitamately faster than everyone else on the court, field, etc. I can’t take my eyes off him. In the box score he had a good, not great game, with 21 points 10 assists on 4 for 19 shooting. However, watching him effortlessly blow by whoever is guarding him whenever he wants to is something that numbers alone cannot capture.

Guarding him for much of the game was Jeremy Linn, an interesting undrafted player out of Harvard. I know him well, as he led his team past my Boston College Eagles in each of the last two seasons. He seems like he could find a spot in the NBA, similar to fellow Maverick and Boston area graduate Jose Barea.

Regardless of the talent he went up against, Wall showed me last night that his freakish athleticism that he showed in college will be just as freakish in the NBA. I predict a run-away rookie of the year award for him, with a year even more impressive than the debuts of recent ROY winning point guards, Derrick Rose and Tyreke Evans.

Just as Washington DC is caught up in a Stephen Strasburg Stupor, so too will there be a John Wall Wow-ing.
